Terms of Service

Effective date: [[KACPER: effective date]]. These terms are the agreement between you and [[KACPER: legal name, e.g. Devs-Mentoring … ]], [[KACPER: registered address, Poland]], tax id [[KACPER: NIP / VAT id]] (“CodeRiv”, “we”, “us”) for the CodeRiv app and coderiv.com. By using CodeRiv you accept them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

1. What CodeRiv is

CodeRiv is a turn-based game in which developers play 1v1 matches of technical questions, plus a Daily Commit, practice from your mistakes, rankings, trophies and certificates. The game is free to play. Premium is an optional subscription that adds extras (section 6).

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 16 years old. By using CodeRiv you confirm that you are. If you use CodeRiv for an employer or team, you still accept these terms personally.

3. Your account

  • You start with a guest account tied to this installation. If you delete the app or lose the device, a guest account and its progress can be lost. Create a profile (e-mail, Apple or Google) to keep your progress.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • One person, one account for competing. Accounts may not be sold or transferred.
  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings › Delete account or at coderiv.com/delete-account. Deleting it does not cancel a subscription (section 6).

4. Fair play

Matches and rankings only mean something if everyone plays fair. You must not:

  • use bots, scripts, modified clients or anything that answers for you or reads answers in advance;
  • create or use several accounts to farm rewards, boost rankings, or pass certificate requirements for someone else;
  • exploit bugs to gain an advantage, or share an exploit instead of reporting it to us;
  • attack, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service or its question bank;
  • harass other players, or impersonate someone.

When nobody else is available, a clearly labelled practice bot may play against you. Bots never appear in rankings. We may reset rankings on schedule (the weekly board resets every Monday) and correct results that were affected by bugs or cheating.

5. Nicknames and names you add

Your nickname and chosen avatar are shown to other players, on challenge-link pages and on your certificates. If you add your real name to a certificate, it is shown there too. Do not choose a nickname or name that is offensive, hateful, sexual, misleading, someone else's, or that infringes rights. We may change or remove one that breaks this rule. You allow us to display what you add for as long as it is in CodeRiv.

6. Premium subscriptions

  • Premium is sold only as an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or annual) through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The store processes the payment and its terms for purchases apply. We never see your card details.
  • The price, in your local currency, is shown in the app and on the store's purchase sheet before you confirm.
  • The annual plan may come with a 7-day free trial for eligible players. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged when the trial ends. Eligibility is decided by the store (usually one trial per account).
  • The subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your store account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
  • You can manage or cancel it at any time in your App Store account settings or in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions. After cancelling, Premium stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their rules. Where the store lets us, we may also help with a refund request. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
  • If a price changes, the store tells you in advance and, where the law or the store requires it, asks for your agreement.
  • Premium currently includes unlimited practice from your mistakes, detailed stats, the verifiable certificate, the premium frame and badge, two streak freezes a week with streak repair, the Daily archive, unlimited hearts and no ads. We may improve or change the extras over time, but we will not remove a main benefit during a period you have already paid for. Questions and explanations stay free for everyone.
  • Restore purchases in the app if you reinstall or change devices under the same store account.

7. Hearts, XP and other in-game items

Hearts, XP, levels, streaks and freezes, trophies, frames and other in-game items have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be sold or transferred. They are a licence to use a game feature, not property. We may rebalance how they work (for example how fast hearts refill).

8. Ads

Free players can choose to watch rewarded ads, for example to refill a heart. Watching is optional and limited per day. Rewards are credited once our server has confirmed the ad was watched.

9. Certificates

A CodeRiv certificate shows that you met CodeRiv's in-app requirements for a level on a path at a given date. It is not an academic degree, a professional licence or an accredited qualification. Anyone with the link can check that it is genuine. We may withdraw a certificate that was obtained by breaking section 4, and certificates are withdrawn when you delete your account. A certificate you earned stays valid after Premium ends.

10. Our content

The app, the questions, explanations, graphics, mascot and the CodeRiv name belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial learning and play in CodeRiv. You may share screenshots and challenge links. You may not copy, publish or resell the question bank or build a competing product from it. We work to keep questions accurate, but they are for practice and may contain mistakes: report them in the app and we will fix them. Nothing in CodeRiv is professional advice.

11. Availability and changes

We keep improving CodeRiv, so features may change, and the service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or reasons beyond our control. If we stop offering CodeRiv altogether, we will tell you in advance, and paid Premium periods are handled through the store's refund process.

12. Suspension and ending the agreement

You can stop using CodeRiv and delete your account at any time. We may warn, suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. We will tell you why, unless the law or safety prevents it, and you can contact us to dispute it.

13. Liability

CodeRiv is provided as it is, and we do not promise that it will help you pass any interview or get any job. We are liable without limit for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, and for injury to life or health. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

14. App Store terms

If you downloaded CodeRiv from the Apple App Store: these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for CodeRiv or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for any product claims, including third-party intellectual property claims. If CodeRiv fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

15. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Polish law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of that country, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live. Please contact us first: most problems are solved faster by e-mail.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by e-mail before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using CodeRiv and delete your account.
